What Decides the Cost of Repairing a Cracked Driveway?
The cost of repairing a cracked driveway is set mainly by four things: the area to recolour, the amount and type of damage, the amount of edge work, and access to the site. Two driveways of the same size can need very different amounts of repair. That is why a fair quote starts from photos rather than a single number on a website.
Send us a photo and the m²Why is there no single price for crack repair?
Because a cracked driveway is not a standard product. One drive has a few hairlines across a sound surface; another has long open cracks, crumbling edges and a peeling old coating. Both may measure the same, yet the second needs far more time before any colour goes on.
Our pricing is built on a guide figure per square metre for cleaning, crack repair and a two-coat recolour, explained on our price per m² page. The final figure then depends on the factors below.
How much does the size of the area matter?
Area is the starting point, because cleaning and the two coats of colour cover every square metre. A long villa driveway with a carport and garage apron, like our Marbella job, is a larger job than a short entrance path.
If you are not sure of the size, measure length and width of each rectangle and add them up, or send a plan. A rough figure is fine for a first quote.
How does the type of damage change the price?
Each defect needs its own work before colour, so the mix of damage drives the time on site. Hairline cracks are quicker to treat than open cracks that must be opened, cleaned out and filled along their length.
| Damage | Effect on the work |
|---|---|
| Fine hairline cracks | Light repair before recolouring |
| Open cracks along the driveway | Each crack opened, cleaned and filled |
| Small potholes | Loose material removed and rebuilt |
| Spalling or crumbling patches | Weak layer removed back to sound concrete |
| Broken joints and edges | Edges rebuilt, joints restored |
Our pages on crack repair, pothole repair and spalling repair explain what each involves.
Why do edges and details add to the cost?
Edges are cut in by brush, which is slower than rolling open surface. A driveway that runs between walls, around pergola posts, past planters and up steps has many metres of edge for every square metre of surface.
In our Marbella photos you can see the brush work along the posts and walls of the carport. It is detailed work, and it is what makes the finished colour line look clean.

What about access and site conditions?
Access affects how quickly equipment, water and materials reach the surface. A steep or narrow driveway, a site with no water point, or a community with restricted access hours all add time.
Vehicles also need to be moved off the area, and the surface stays out of use until it can take traffic again according to the product data sheet. Planning around that is easier with a clear date window.
Does an old coating make the job more expensive?
It can. If an earlier paint or sealer is peeling, the loose parts have to come off before anything new goes on, because a new coat only bonds as well as the layer beneath it.
A sound old coating that is just faded is less of an issue. Photos showing any peeling areas up close help us tell the difference before quoting.
What is not included in a repair price?
A repair price covers surface work on an existing slab. It does not include structural surveys, base work, demolition, new concrete, parking line marking or indoor floors, because those are not services we provide.
If your photos suggest movement or a failed base, we tell you before quoting, and our guide on when repair is not enough explains what usually comes first. For a quick read on whether repair is worthwhile at all, see is it worth repairing a cracked patio.
How do you get an accurate quote?
Send us a wide photo of the whole area, close-ups of the worst damage, the approximate square metres and the town. Mention steps, ramps, pool edges or old coatings.
From that we can tell you whether it is a repair job, what the main work will be and give you a quote. The quote page on our sister site explains how the figure is put together.
Frequently asked questions
How is the price of driveway crack repair calculated?
It starts from a guide price per square metre that covers cleaning, crack repair and two coats of colour, and is then adjusted for the amount of damage, edge work and access. Our sister site explains the guide price, and a firm quote comes after we see photos.
Why don't you show prices on this site?
Prices for our network are kept on one dedicated site so that they are always consistent and up to date. This site focuses on the repairs themselves. Follow the price link for the guide figure, then send photos for an exact quote.
Do more cracks always mean a higher price?
Usually the amount and type of damage affects the time needed, so it affects the price. A few long, open cracks may take more work than many fine hairlines. Photos let us judge the repair work before quoting. A short, honest description of how the cracks have changed also helps.
Is a small area cheaper per square metre?
Not necessarily. Small areas still need cleaning, repairs, edge work and two coats, and setting up on site takes time regardless of size. Detailed areas with many edges can take longer per square metre than a large open driveway. Detail, not just size, shapes the figure.
Does a steep driveway cost more to repair?
It can, because access, moving equipment and working safely on a slope take more time. Narrow access, no water point or restricted community hours have a similar effect. Mention these when you ask for a quote. We can then plan the visit properly.
Will I pay extra if you find more damage on site?
Our quote is based on what the photos show. If something important was not visible, such as a hidden peeling coating or damage under dirt, we tell you before doing extra work so you can decide. Clear, close-up photos keep surprises to a minimum.
Is VAT included in the price?
The guide price on our sister site is shown with VAT stated separately, and the VAT that applies depends on the type of property and work. Check the price site for details, and ask us if you are unsure which situation applies to you.
Is it cheaper to repair only the cracks?
Repairing only the cracks is less work, but the repairs will stand out against the faded surface. An even finish needs the whole area recoloured. We can discuss a smaller defined area if budget is the concern.
Does the price include moving cars and furniture?
The area needs to be clear for us to work. If moving vehicles, plant pots or furniture is a problem, for example because you are abroad, mention it so we can plan it with your property manager. Someone on site can usually help with this.
Can a community get one quote for a shared driveway?
Yes. For a common driveway or ramp, we quote the shared area as one job and send it to the administrator or president. The community then deals with approval and cost-sharing according to its own rules. We can answer any questions the administrator has.
What photos give the most accurate quote?
A wide shot of the whole area, close-ups of the worst cracks and holes with something for scale, photos of the edges along walls and posts, and any peeling coating. Add the rough square metres and the town. Daylight photos of a dry surface show the most.
